Aloha Nā Koa members,
January found your Warriors returning to school and workouts in preparation for spring football.
As always, education is our top priority. The coaches, in partnership with the academic counseling staff, are working hard to help the team maintain and improve upon the 3.0+ GPA achieved last year. Workouts and team meetings are scheduled with classes in mind and can be quite a task but are absolutely necessary to ensure that student-athletes are able to focus on academics and participate in workouts.
Speaking of workouts… the team returned to workouts in mid-January after a well-deserved few weeks of rest following the New Mexico Bowl victory. The team is divided into small groups that participate in socially distanced, well-coordinated workouts on the field and in the weight room. Outdoor workouts focus on speed and quickness, endurance, and learning/improving skills for each position. And, as you can imagine, the weight room focuses on increasing strength appropriate to each position as well as general muscle development that helps to prevent/minimize injuries.
We are also excited to be signing some great additions to the team on February 3rd, National Letter of Intent day. As no in-person visits were allowed per NCAA rules, all recruiting activity was conducted via electronic means (FaceTime, Zoom, etc.) including player interviews and meetings with parents. We will ultimately add about 15 new Warriors to the roster in this recruiting “class.”
Finally, plans continue to develop for our Warriors to play on TC Ching Field in Mānoa for the first time ever in the history of UH Football. We are excited and looking forward to playing on campus in front of students and fans.
On behalf of our team, thank you for your steadfast support of Nā Koa and Warrior Football.
Win Every Day!
PS: The Nā Koa staff is working on updating the membership brochure and will be finalizing it shortly. Please be on the lookout for information on membership for the 2021-22 year and consider continuing your support of our team!
