Aloha Nā Koa members!
It is already August and that can only mean ONE thing! Football season is just around the corner.
Fall football camp started at the very end of July and is off to a great start. The team is practicing on campus and working hard on preparing for the upcoming season kicking off against UCLA on August 28th in the Rose Bowl. They are also finishing up the second session of summer school and our newest Rainbow Warriors are participating in the Bridge Program designed to ease them into the rigors of university life and Division I football. All the while, we are working hard with the Athletics Department and our medical staff to keep everyone safe as our community continues to deal with COVID challenges. (Please note practices are closed to the public.)
In late July, Calvin Turner, Jr, and Cortez Davis accompanied me to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Conference media days. They represented our team, our fans and the State very well. Our new uniforms from Adidas were also unveiled at the media day events. As you may have seen, 10 of our Warrior student-athletes were recipients of the 2020-21 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award. It marked a record-number of honorees for UH, surpassing the nine selections last year. A number of our players have been placed on “watch lists” and three Rainbow Warriors were named to the Mountain West Preseason All-Conference Team (Linebacker Darius Muasau and cornerback Cortez Davis were named on defense while all-purpose star Calvin Turner Jr, was selected as a punt returner). Progress on the Ching Field preparations continue and are making good progress for an on-time finish.

On the fundraising front, Nā Koa wrapped up the 2nd annual virtual session of the Ed Wong Memorial golf tournament. Results for both the in-person and virtual tournament can be found on the Nā Koa website (Nakoa.org). Also, membership renewals for the 2021-22 year continue (nakoa.org/membership/). Please consider renewing your membership in Nā Koa. Every dollar goes directly to support your Rainbow Warrior Football team in the areas of education, safety and health.
Take care, stay safe, and Win Every Day!
