What is the difference between the UH Foundation, ‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue and Nā Koa Football Club?
The following describes the institutional relationships between the University of Hawai‘i Foundation, the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa athletics programs, `Ahahui Koa Ānuenue and the Nā Koa Football Club, and how contributions to Nā Koa are received, accounted for, and managed:

The University of Hawai‘i Foundation (UHF) is a tax exempt charitable organization contracted by the University Hawai‘i to be the central organization that receives and holds all of the contributions and donations that are made to ‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue (AKA) and any of the booster clubs that support the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa athletics programs. UHF has established separate accounts for AKA and each of the booster clubs that all donor contributions and donations are deposited into. All of the funds received by UHF on behalf of AKA and each of the booster clubs are assets of UHF and are reported by UHF in its audited financial statements and on its annual Form 990 filed with the IRS.UHF is exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and donations to UHF are tax deductible. UHF is registered as a charitable organization with the State of Hawai‘i, Department of the Attorney General’s office. Its annual IRS Form 990’s are available for public review on UHF’s website and at the Attorney General’s Charity Resources website (https://ag.ehawaii.gov/charity).

‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue (AKA) is the designated organization responsible for the coordination and oversight of all fundraising activities that are conducted to benefit and support the UH Mānoa athletics programs. This includes, but is not limited to, booster clubs, planned gifts and the preferred seating program. Nā Koa Football Club is the official organization established to support the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warrior Football program. All donations made to the UHF on behalf of Nā Koa go to support Warrior Football.

The UH Mānoa Athletics Department uses funds, donations, and contributions received by UHF in accordance with the donors’ intents, NCAA regulations, and UHF expenditure policies.

As you can see, the focus and goals of these organizations are different. Nā Koa Football Club provides direct financial support to the UH Rainbow Warrior Football Program. See our Mission & Goals for a breakdown of priority areas of funding.

If I make a general donation through the UH Foundation can I designate a certain percentage be directed to Nā Koa in support of Warrior Football?
Yes, you may designate a portion of a general donation be directed to Nā Koa. Your donation may be made by check or online.

What is Nā Koa’s membership count?
The membership count for Nā Koa Football Club changes each year as individuals choose to support the Rainbow Warrior Football program through Nā Koa. It varies anywhere from 250 to 400 members each year.

Does the club have a paid or volunteer staff? Are Board members compensated in any way?
Nā Koa has two paid staff members, the Executive Director and a Membership and Events Coordinator. Board members are unpaid for the time and resources they contribute to Nā Koa. For a list of the Nā Koa Board members, please visit our Officers & Board Members page

Is my membership donation tax deductible?
Yes, all or some of your donation may be deductible. Your tax deduction is based on the level of membership you select and whether or not you choose to receive the fulfillment items. If you prefer NOT to accept those items, your membership donation may be 100% deductible. If you accept the fulfillment, we will advise you of the net value of your donation that is considered tax deductible. Please consult your tax professional for details.

What kind of activities do you have planned for Nā Koa members?

How can I volunteer to help with Nā Koa events and fundraising activities?
If you would like to volunteer to help with events, committees, fundraising, please send an email to info@nakoa.org.

If I want to donate to Nā Koa through an endowment, how do I go about setting that up?
There is an existing endowment fund set up for Nā Koa. To find out how you can make a contribution contact info@nakoa.org. You might also want to speak with your financial advisor concerning a Lead Fund. This option may provide a significant tax advantage for you, as well as a means of making a generous donation to Nā Koa Football Club.
