More than 50 BOWarriors and friends gathered on Friday, the 13th of September, at the Whidbey Island home of football alumnus Tom Fruechtel and his wife Mary Jo, to renew old friendships, forge new ones, and support Nā Koa. The fundraiser was hosted by the Fruechtels along with fellow football alumnus and teammate Rick Puhl, and his wife Patti, also a UH alumna. The evening was spent reminiscing about past games and catching up as some of the teammates had not seen each other in 40 years! Former Warriors came from South Carolina, Illinois, California, Hawaii and many other states. Recent Warrior alum (Guyton Galdeira) performed a hula as thanks and a hula was also offered by a new friend in attendance at the event.
The next day, 25 BOWarriors and Friends hopped on a bus for a short road trip from Mukilteo, Washington to the University of Washington Stadium to cheer on our team. Prior to the game, the group was able to connect with more BOWarriors (Kelly McGill, Travis Sims, and many others). While the outcome was not as we would have wished, everyone had a great time at the game.
This fundraiser for Nā Koa raised over $2,500 and provided a great opportunity for BOWarriors across the years to get together and show their support for Nā Koa. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit our website (nakoa.org/donate) and make your gift today to support our current Warriors!
